Poem : Premonition by Robert William Service

'Twas a year ago and the moon was bright
(Oh, I remember so well, so well);
I walked with my love in a sea of light,
And the voice of my sweet was a silver bell.
And sudden the moon grew strangely dull,
And sudden my love had taken wing;
I looked on the face of a grinning skull,
I strained to my heart a ghastly thing.

'Twas but fantasy, for my love lay still
In my arms, with her tender eyes aglow,
And she wondered why my lips were chill,
Why I was silent and kissed her so.
A year has gone and the moon is bright,
A gibbous moon, like a ghost of woe;
I sit by a new-made grave to-night,
And my heart is broken -- it's strange, you know.

Poem : Illuminate by Raymond A. Foss

Illuminate all of my life, Lord
shine light into the darkness,
guide my feet, Spirit
Help me walk back to you,
my creator, to your house,
your temple; make me your servant
your disciple, spreading the good news
to the world. Watch over me,
lead me where you will,
to do your work
Light my path;
lead me home.

Poem : The Bow in the Sunny Sky by Raymond A. Foss

We were blessed, by a singular sight
after our time on the beach, at the picnic
a slice of color, cut into the screen
the piece of the dome
a segment of a bow
vertical in the summer sky
color against the blue
growing for a few moments
iridescent, shimmering in the sunny sky
growing, posing, long enough,
for us all, to marvel

Poem : Part Four: Time and Eternity, LXXIX by Emily Dickinson

OF tribulation these are they
Denoted by the white;
The spangled gowns, a lesser rank
Of victors designate.

All these did conquer; but the ones
Who overcame most times
Wear nothing commoner than snow,
No ornament but palms.

Surrender is a sort unknown
On this superior soil;
Defeat, an outgrown anguish,
Remembered as the mile

Our panting ankle barely gained
When night devoured the road;
But we stood whispering in the house,
And all we said was “Saved!”
